Gifts That Give Back Gift Guide

When you’re giving gifts this holiday season, it would be awesome to also support companies who give back to charity missions as part of their central cause! Here are some amazing brands, and the causes they support, which would make great gifts that give back gifting options this season:

Seed Savers Exchange – Seed Savers Exchange is a non-profit that collects and regenerates rare, heirloom, and open-pollinated seed varieties so they don’t disappear. Their work helps promote agricultural and food crop diversity, which is becoming endangered. For the gardener in your life, select some interesting and unique seed varieties, or choose from one of Seed Savers gift collections.

Society B – Society B is a marketplace for fair trade goods that donates 10% of its sales proceeds to charity. You have the option to shop by goods or collections, or by charity cause. There are products here for everyone on your list — and check out these adorable baby blankets!

Powers Provisions – Powers Provisions is an online storefront created by Gretchen Powers and her wife Kaleigh Wood. They sell handmade prints, knitted hats, and jewelry. Proceeds from various Powers Provisions collections support different charitable causes, such as their Pride Collection of beanies.

Patagonia – Patagonia is one of the OG companies of corporate responsibility and giving back — you can even read about it in the founder’s book Let My People Go Surfing (which would actually make a cool gift!). Patagonia supports sustainability causes through 1% for the planet, and they do a ton of work to pioneer safe and ethical factory conditions around the world. Hiking gear, hats, socks, hoodies — Patagonia has an option for everyone on their site!

RAYGUN – RAYGUN was started right here in Iowa, and they support a ton of different causes with their collections, including Planned Parenthood, Abortion Access Fund, the ELPC, pollinator gardens, and more. If there’s something at RAYGUN that is perfect for a person on your list, you’ll know it when you see it!

Malicious Woman – Malicious Woman candles are all 100% soy and natural, and handmade with heart. The founder established the business to give back to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) after her best friend lost her battle with depression. To date, the company has supported  suicide prevention causes, charities supporting women’s issues & empowerment programs, breast health awareness and to programs providing food & essentials to Federal workers impacted by the 2019 Government shutdown.

Bird & Bean Coffee – This coffee company sells Smithsonian Bird Friendly Coffee– which is considered to be the best guarantee of environmentally sound, sustainable grown coffee farming– and gives back to bird conservation programs. The coffee is also Organic, Fair Trade, and from a B-Certified Roaster. Select a couple bags of coffee for the coffee-lover on your list, or purchase them an on-going subscription!

Cuddle + Kind – This is a family-owned business that makes beautiful hand-knit dolls that help feed children. For each doll purchased, proceeds are donated to feed 10 children in need through global charities. Giving is really at the heart of this beautiful brand, which has donated over 7 million meals to children in 66 countries around the world. Additionally, these dolls are adorable and super high quality — they are completely organic hand-stitched in ethical factories.

Conscious Step – Who doesn’t love a great pair of quality socks? When you wear Conscious Step socks, you are inspiring others to make conscious decisions about the impact of their purchases.  The company supports causes that plant rain forest trees, donates meals, provides HIV treatment, donates books, plants trees, and provides clean water access. Plus the socks are fair-trade and made with organic cotton.

Starfish Project – Starfish Project is a jewelry brand that helps exploited women and girls experience freedom, establish independence and develop careers. They have a beautiful holiday gift guide, but I especially love the world pendant necklace that covers the cost for Starfish Project to reach out to 16 women in the red light district.

Bon Temps Tea – Bon Temps Tea is super clean and organic — they use organic ingredients and corn-fiber tea bags to avoid pesticides, bleaches, artificial flavors and GMOs. They support the mission of female investing. Throughout the year they pool proceeds from the tea and give out $1,000 grants to help make women’s dreams and projects a reality. Mary Benson – Mary Benson is a London clothing brand that has sourced 500 vintage berets from Blue Rinse Vintage and have upcyled them in London, making each of them one of a kind. I LOVE the “I Believe in Magic” berets, which support the Young Minds Charity to help children get the mental health support they need.
